About
Bringing together the UK’s leading research teams to support pandemic prevention, preparedness and response.
The UK’s science and innovation-led approach to combatting COVID-19 has delivered major national and global benefits at record speed. This has leveraged expertise and capabilities from across a wide range of leading UK universities, academic institutions and life science companies. The UK Pandemic Sciences Network (UKPSN) was formed in 2022 to build upon this and improve our responsiveness to future pandemic threats.

Scope
The UKPSN will focus on building collaboration and prioritisation of research across the UK to ensure impact in strategically important areas, guided by the overarching framework of the G7 nations’ 100 Days Mission to respond to future pandemic threats. In addition, the Network will:
- Support the UK pandemic sciences community to establish more and better connections and enhance collaboration between this community and researchers in related disciplines. This may be facilitated through joint applications for research grants and partnering on contracts with industry.
- Act as a convening body and focal point for academic dialogue with the UK Government including the UK Health Security Agency, Department of Health and Social Care, UK Research and Innovation, National Institute for Health and Care Research; with the governments of the devolved nations; and with overseas governments, public health agencies (including the World Health Organisation) and industry.
- Deliver an annual event on behalf of the UK pandemic sciences community and facilitate training to support connectivity and skills development – in particular of early-career researchers within the Network.
- Establish urgent response or task-and-finish groups to tackle emerging issues such as new disease threats.
